Description
Kashi Vishwanath is an ancient temple complex in Guptkashi. The main temple is dedicated to Shiva with a nandi (bull) outside and the other small temple is dedicated to Ardhanareshvara (a half man half woman form of Shiva and Parvati). There is a kund (stepped water tank) with water flowing continuously from two metal spouts. The complex also comprise of a dharamshala/accommodation facility, a social gathering place, peripheral structure at the entrance housing the temple office and shops from exterior and few loose sculptures of great importance. The temple's religious importance is considered next to that of Varanasi.
The architectural style of this temple is similar to other temples in Uttrakhand, it is built in stone with a shikhar over the main shrine with a wooden frame and sloping roof at the top of the shikhar.
